So, this is my first blog. I’ve been pondering about this for quite some time now and never got around to it. I figured, now that I’m sitting here in front of my computer, in the middle of the night, I might as well make myself useful. What to talk about in a first blog entry?? People often say your first impressions always count, and yet again we should never be over-confident with our first impressions of people. Well first or last, may this be a pleasurable experience for you readers out there.
Now back to the theme of this monologue. Ahh yes, the only thing in our minds day and night, the one thing that can make us forget that everything else in the world exists. The only thing that can make us short of breath or even skip a beat. Love. Is there anything else?
We are surrounded by it in the everyday chaos of the city, in the humming of a summer breeze, in the ruffles of the falling leaves, and the crashing waves of the ocean on the sand.
Yet we still wonder, and ask ourselves what is Love?
Is it that feeling of self-forgetfulness that overpowers us when the image of that other person comes to mind every time you hear a song, you pick up a book or even smell a hint of lavender in the gentle wind? I guess some people might call me a romantic, but never the less, those same people know what I’m talking about.
Love. Such a powerful word, that sometimes we are so afraid of even spelling it. Nothing feels quite the same as being in Love. The ups and downs, the adrenaline rush, the thrill of the game, a whirlwind of emotional and physical reactions that just make you glow.
It feels great.
Which then leads me to ask myself, why do people settle for the wrong person who just happens to be there at the right time, instead of pursuing the right person who is still out there? I refuse to believe that love is a compromise. Why settle for Mr. Right Now, when you can be in the arms of Mr. Right?? Now I’m not saying we will all be marrying Prince Charming or Cinderella, but I would like to believe that somewhere in the middle of 6.8 billion people is my soul mate. That special person who finishes your sentences, who knows what you are thinking, and calls you the moment you were picking up the phone.
I would like to think that Love is passionate, crazy and inexplicable. There’s no reason. No logic. It just is. Then why are we so afraid of letting ourselves go and just giving in to the rush? We engage ourselves in a life of critical dissection and often forget about our desires and dreams. I refuse to think that mad, crazy and can’t live without each other love is gone. I think there is a lack of love going on in the world, like we were saving it or keeping it hidden just like the millionaire who saved every penny of his fortune and eventually died like a peasant. Believe me, love is an unlimited resource, that when invested can be multiplied. As Warren Buffett once said, "It's nice to have a lot of money, but you know, you don't want to keep it around forever. I prefer buying things. Otherwise, it's a little like saving sex for your old age." Well it’s the same with love.
So give a little love, pass it on, and love some more.
